La catedral de la Virgen de Kazan es la cima de la arquitectura del alto clasicismo y, a la vez, un brillante ejemplo de síntesis de las artes. El majestuoso edificio con columnata ampliamente desplegada que domina la avenida Nevski fue construida en 1801-1811 por proyecto de A. Voronijin.
